IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PUPPY BUYERS 2005 was a very bad season for Parvovirus infection in dogs across the country. There were losses in all States and SA was no exception with high numbers of dogs being put to sleep. All puppies from my kennel are vaccinated for Parvovirus before being rehomed but there are a few facts that you should be aware of. When your puppy is born it is protected by its mothers antibodies which are transfered through the colostrom and milk supply. These antibodies stay in the puppies system to around 10 weeks of age giving protection of varying/diminishing degrees to the puppy. When you purchase a puppy at age 8 weeks the vaccination supplied which contains live bacteria is attacked by these maternal antibodies which reduces and in some cases negates the protection offered by the needle. This is why a vet will advise a second (booster) needle at 12-16 weeks of age. Many puppy buyers do not take their new baby for these very important second needles and therefore leave their dogs at risk. In the future I will give any person looking for a puppy from me the option EITHER of having the 7 week needle and taking the puppy home as usual providing the second one is promised OR, leaving the baby with me for a few more weeks whereby I will give a more viable vaccination at around 10-12 weeks of age. My own puppies are not subjected to vaccinations prior to 12 weeks of age. Parvovirus is a devastating illness and young puppies often do not survive so there is a need to be especially careful when taking young partially protected babies home at 8 weeks about keeping them away from other dogs until the second needle is given and protection is obtained. Obviously most puppy buyers want a cute baby to look after but think about it, when all is said an extra few weeks do not make a lot of difference in the puppy's life and can make all the difference if the vaccination has not taken strongly |
TRAVEL COSTS If you live interstate from me in South Australia we are able to fly your new puppy to you using Virgin Air. You can either send over your own solid plastic crate by regular post for us to use or we can purchase one for you at this end at the best price (Usually around $50.00 medium size or $72.00 for the large). I recently got a shock when sending a puppy to find that Air freight costs for puppies had risen so below are the current estimates from Virgin to various States as of February 06. An 8-12 week Italian Greyhound puppy in a small crate weighs approx 4 kgs. {in a large crate approx 6 kgs.} Adelaide to Perth $77.50 base rate plus $9.00 per kg Adelaide to Melbourne $77.50 base rate plus $2.75 per kg Adelaide to Sydney $77.50 base rate plus $4.70 per kg Adelaide to Brisbane $77.50 base rate plus $6.60 per kg Adelaide to Canberra $77.50 base rate plus $4.40 per kg Adelaide to Mackay, QLD $77.50 base rate plus $9.60 per kg Work out your cost and then add 10% for the GST component required by our illustrious government and you have the amount for transport. I will add to this price list as new costs are available to me. Note... I do not charge extra for the cost of travelling the 6 hour round trip to the airport in an effort to keep your costs to the minimum. |
